HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A man was killed and at least one driver suffered life-threatening injuries when two tractor trailers crashed along South Laburnum Avenue, Henrico police said.

The crash, which happened near the intersection of Williamsburg Road around 11:45 a.m. Thursday, has closed the roadway for cleanup and investigation.

"We do have some detours in place," Henrico police spokesperson Karina Bolster told CBS 6. "We are asking folks please avoid the area if possible, whether that be traveling by motor vehicle or even if you are walking by the area. We just want to ensure that our first responders are able to continue doing the job that they responded out here to do as well as making sure other individuals remain safe in this area."

Detours are in place as follows:

• Williamsburg Road (west) at Oakley’s Lane & Eubank Road

• S. Laburnum Ave at Finley Street & Eubank Road

Police have not yet shared the name of the man, described as a pedestrian, who was killed in the crash.

Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett the deceased was an individual holding a sign advertising for a business in that area.

"I was on my way to Kroger, and the street is blocked down there, so I got out and parked to explore," Charles Stalling, who lives in the area and drove up on the aftermath of the crash, said. "They're saying that it's a guy that works for Little Caesars. He's always holding up the 'Hot and Ready' sign... [he's] always out there. Everybody who's in this area knows that he works for Little Caesar. He always has the sign."

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Bolster said detours are expected to be in effect through Thursday evening rush hour and perhaps beyond.

"Anybody who passes by the scene is going to see that there's a lot going on," Bolster said. "We have to remember that unfortunately, someone did die in this crash. So not only are our officers and other first responders working to gather information about what happened, but they're also handling that emotional side of what unfolded here as well."
