CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — It was a change one Chesterfield mom knew was needed, but not one that she looked forward to making.
Stephanie Mwesigwa’s three-year-old son Christian had become attached to his teddy bear. So attached, Stephanie said, that when the child got his tonsils removed recently, his parents were not allowed back in the room with him, but Bear was.
The problem, as Stephanie saw it, was that Bear is old and falling apart.
After all, Stephanie got Bear when she was a teenager and kept him long enough to pass the beloved doll along to her son.

When she found a Bear look-alike on Amazon, she ordered the new, less fragile Teddy Bear, as a replacement.
But how could she explain Bear’s changes to her son?
The answer — bring Bear to work.
Stephanie works at Bon Air Animal Hospital off West Huguenot Road.
She worked with Dr. Seth Lipstock, Sarah, and Katarina to create a video of Bear going into surgery and coming out a new — bear.
As you can see in the video, Christian loved his new, healthier Bear.
In fact, Stephanie said Christian even commented he liked Bear’s soft, post-surgery fur more than before.
