SCC Orders utility service disruptions be suspended

The State Corporation Commission has directed utility companies in Virginia suspend service disconnections “until the coronavirus outbreak subsides”.

RICHMOND, Va. — The State Corporation Commission has directed utility companies in Virginia suspend service disconnections “until the coronavirus outbreak subsides”.

The Commission said it has directed electric, natural gas and water companies to place a 60-day moratorium on disconnecting services for “any customer, residential and business, who may be financially impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak”.

The Commission added as the coronavirus situation continues to evolve, it make take further action if necessary.

The actions was requested by Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, who filed an emergency petition with the Commission last week.
