HOPEWELL, Va. -- Police have identified a Hopewell man and woman shot to death in a double homicide Thursday afternoon as 39-year-old Julian Emmanuel Sharpe and Elisa Scott.

Police responded to the 1300 block of Central Avenue, near Trenton Street, at about 2:30 p.m.

Officers discovered Sharpe dead and Scott with life-threatening gunshot related injuries at the entrance to a home.

Scott was taken to the hospital for treatment. She was transported to VCU Medical Center where she died from her injuries.

Both victims have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies.

Police released an image from a security camera that showed a vehicle of interest in the area at the time of the shooting.

"Anyone who may have been in the area around 2:30 or driving by and you saw vehicles, there may have been a white four-door sedan in the area," Lt. Michael Langford with Hopewell Police said.

Police said there is no information yet about a motive.

“We are not going to put up with the violence and we are asking for your assistance to solve this and other incidents that have plagued us this year,” Langford said.

An eyewitness said she heard too many shots to count Thursday afternoon.

"One person got out of the car and started shooting over there,” said a Hopewell mother, who grabbed her daughter and went to the safest place she could think of in her house: the bathroom.

"I was just trying to protect her to make sure nothing happens to her," she said.

She said with the number of shots she heard ripping through Central Avenue, she was terrified a bullet would come through the window or walls.

"I'm scared to be here when that happened," she said.

Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call Lead Detective Kate Williamson of the Hopewell Criminal Investigations Unit at 804-541-2284. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call the Hopewell Prince George Crimesolvers hotline in Hopewell at 804-541-2202 or provide tips using the P3tips mobile app.
