POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. -- A 19-year-old Powhatan High School graduate was killed Saturday in a crash on Route 60 (Anderson Highway), according to Virginia State Police.
John M. Jeffers, 19, of Powhatan, was wearing a seatbelt when he crashed.
He died at the hospital.
"The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2008 Toyota Tocoma was heading east on Route 60 when it ran off the road right and struck a tree," a Virginia State Police spokesperson wrote in an email.
Winter weather was moving across Virginia at the time of the crash, which was reported at 8:57 a.m. in the 2700 block of Route 60, according to police.
Jeffers was driving to work at OfficeMax, alone in his truck, when he crashed, according to his parents.
John Jeffers graduated from Powhatan High School in 2019 where he was part of JROTC.
He recently enrolled at John Tyler Community College, according to his parents.
"Johnny was loving, kind, and compassionate," Jackie Jeffers wrote. "He was loved by all who knew him, friends and family."
The Jeffers family wanted to thank all those who cared for their son at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
