SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. -- A man broke into the home of a pastor and his wife and stabbed the couple multiple times as they slept Monday morning, according to the Sussex County Sheriff's Office. Now investigators are looking for the stabbing suspect identified as 21-year-old Maxim Lloyd Chisholm.
Pastor Hugh Mayes and his wife Carol were stabbed multiple times in the chest, Sussex Detective Derrick McKenzie said. The couple was airlifted to the hospital for surgery. Their conditions have not been released. Mayes is the pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church in Carson, according to the church's website.
Chisholm, investigators said, stayed with the Mayes from time to time and was assisted by Pastor Hugh's church. Chisholm has ties to Chesterfield County, Detective McKenzie said.
Chisholm is considered armed and dangerous, investigators said. He may be driving a stolen blue Ford Escape with Virginia tags XTX-6239.
Anyone who spots Chisholm is asked to call 911 or the Sussex County Sheriff's Office at 434-246-5000. If you have additional information about this situation, you can send a news tip here.
