CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Correy Lee Davis, an inmate in the Chesterfield County Jail, died Saturday after deputies discovered him hanging in his single-inmate jail cell, according to the Chesterfield Sheriff’s Department.

“Deputies quickly cut Davis down and administered CPR until jail medical staff arrived and attempted to resuscitate him. Chesterfield EMS responded and transported Davis to CJW Medical Center, Chippenham Campus, where he succumbed,” a statement from the Sheriff’s Office read. “As is protocol, Chesterfield Police investigated the matter.”

Davis was in jail on drug-related charges out of Chesterfield and Henrico, the Sheriff’s Office indicated.

Online records listed the only Correy Davis in custody at the time as a 27-year-old Highland Springs man. Davis was recently arrested on gang participation and drug manufacturing charges, according to online court records.
