RICHMOND, Va. -- The bomb squad has given the all-clear at 8th Street, between Clay and Marshall Streets in downtown Richmond, after someone spotted a backpack in front of the federal building that houses the IRS. Police said the backpack was not a threat. Traffic was blocked and GRTC rerouted buses in the area during the investigation.

UPDATE Customer Alert: @RichmondPolice closed N 8th St b/t Marshall & Clay while they inspect a suspicious package. We are rerouting buses.

Buses 6,34,52,53,60,61,68 & 34 are being rerouted. Service at the Transfer Plaza is detoured when they leave.
