HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- State police have released the name of the woman killed in a two-vehicle crash that closed westbound Interstate 64 near Richmond International Airport for hours early Tuesday morning. The crash happened around 5:50 a.m. near mile marker 197 (Airport Drive).
State police said that a Hyundai was traveling westbound when the driver lost control, struck a guardrail and spun out. A 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling behind the vehicle did not have time to stop and struck the sedan's driver’s side door, according to troopers.
The driver of the Hyundai, 38-year-old Amanda R. Carlton of Powhatan died at the scene. State police said she was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the pickup, 65-year-old Joseph E. Huggins of Quinton was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Officials said he was also wearing a seatbelt.
State police said continue investigating the crash.
CBS 6 reporter Jake Burns said that the wreck damaged a 40 yard stretch of guardrail.
