RICHMOND, Va. -- A powerful storm system will bring heavy rain to the area this morning into the afternoon. The potential for the heaviest rain will fall in the metro from around daybreak through noon.

Some storms will also occur, and there is the potential for isolated storms to be strong or severe with high wind gusts.

The best chance for this will be east and southeast of Richmond.

Rain will begin to turn more scattered during the afternoon. Highs will be in the 60s to around 70. Rainfall totals of over an inch may occur, and a flood watch is in effect.

Friday will have a few scattered showers with highs in the mid to upper 60s.

Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 70s. Much of Sunday will be dry, but a few scattered showers or storms will be possible towards evening. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

A cooler trend will settle in next week with highs in the 60s to lower 70s Tuesday through Friday. Stay with CBS 6, The Weather Authority.
