RICHMOND, Va. -- A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of the Piedmont and Tidewater, as a combination of ice and snow will move into the area tonight through Friday morning.

Expect a light rain and drizzle this morning through midday, with more precipitation arriving in central Virginia by mid to late afternoon. Snow will initially melt on contact Thursday afternoon and early evening, but will accumulate late today into early Friday, with 1-3" possible by the time the event ends Friday morning.

The rest of Friday will be dry and cold.

Another round of moisture will move into the area on Saturday, and significant icing from freezing rain will be possible. Ice storm warning criterion of .25” of ice or more will be possible.

Very little precipitation is expected Sunday and Monday, but another round of rain and potentially freezing rain will move into the area Tuesday.
