JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. -- A driver was killed while standing on the side of Interstate 64 Thursday night, according to Virginia State Police. Police were called to mile marker 245 in James City County at about 8:56 p.m.
"Preliminary investigations reveal that a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500, became disabled and was stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate. The driver, a 63-year-old male, was outside of the disabled vehicle, when a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer lost control, ran off the roadway, and struck the disabled vehicle and its driver," Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt. Michelle Anaya said. "The Freightliner then struck a tree before coming to rest in the grassy area of the interstate."
The 63-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor-trailer driver, identified as Glenn Alan Fuselier Jr., was not seriously injured. Fuselier was charged with reckless driving.
"There was no indication of impairment, speed was not a contributing factor," Anaya said.
This is a developing story.
