RICHMOND, Va.– Richmond City Council will discuss the PULSE at Monday’s meeting, which is GRTC’s plan to bring rapid transit to Broad Street.
Council members have already approved the $49-million proposal, most of which will be paid for with state and federal grant money.
Tonight, they plan to ask a study be done, showing the economic impact a rapid transit system would have on the city.
Once completed the rapid bus line, called the PULSE, will transform a seven-mile stretch of Broad Street with 14 stops of frequently running buses from Willow Lawn to Rocketts Landing.
Supporters say the project will bring in much needed public transportation and jobs to the area, but critics worry it will hurt downtown businesses, and leave too few places to park downtown.
