RICHMOND, Va. -- This Thanksgiving Day was the 10th anniversary of an event that was created to make sure everyone can have a good holiday meal.

The feast from Giving Heart began around 11 a.m. in downtown Richmond, and served until 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

It can't be done without an army of hundreds of volunteers, who help prepare food, set up, clean up and serve.

In addition to the feast, which included classics like turkey and mashed potatoes, essentials were handed out to those in need.

The organization focuses on seeking out and feeding the homeless, elderly, working class families, servicemen, and those who would be alone during the holidays. Around 3,000 people are served each year.

GRTC provided free bus ride to the Thanksgiving Feast, which was held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The Giving Heart has hosted since 2005.
