James, police said, was part of a group that got into a fight with Davie L. Young on July 24. The 26-year-old Hopewell man was in Richmond's Mosby Court Friday night when the altercation took place.
"[The] investigation revealed the victim [Young] was reportedly involved in an altercation with several black males, who began shooting at him. Young took cover in his SUV, which he crashed a few blocks away," Richmond Police spokeswoman Susan Rowland said. "At approximately 7:17 p.m. on July 24, [Richmond Police] officers responded to a report of an accident near the intersection of Coalter and Redd streets. As they were responding, additional 911 calls were received about a shooting at the same location."

Young, who was shot, later died at the hospital. A woman and two children also in the SUV were not injured, police said.
"I just seen him [Young] with his kids a few times," a neighbor who asked not to be identified said. "It’s sickening — just the violence period."
The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to call Major Crimes Detective Christopher Foultz at 804-646-6996 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
