Police ID 24-year-old killed in Southside parking lot shooting

RICHMOND, Va. – Police have released the name of the 24-year-old man killed after a shooting on Richmond's Southside Sunday evening.

It happened at 7:36 p.m. when officers were called for a shots fired report at a parking lot in the 5600 block of Petosky Avenue at the Forestbrooke apartment complex.

Richmond police said before officers arrived, Kim M. Dodson, of the 9000 block of Lyric Court in Chesterfield, was driven from the shooting scene to an area hospital where he died.

Officers said another man wounded in the gunfire was driven to a convenience store parking lot at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Covington Avenue. That's where an ambulance was called and he was taken to an area hospital.

According to police, that victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police said their investigation into the case continues, but as suspect description has not been released.
