When will the snow arrive? Hour-by-hour look at Thursday’s winter storm in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. -- Winter weather alerts are posted in Virginia as significant accumulations of snow and sleet will be possible Thursday.

The changeover in Richmond will begin at approximately 7 AM, with sleet mixing with the rain and precipitation moving toward all sleet.  Surface temperatures will fall to freezing around 11 AM.  The sleet will begin mixing with and changing to snow around 2 PM, with snow continuing through sunset. Snow will end from northwest to southeast Thursday evening.  Expect slick and hazardous road conditions.

The highest snow totals will occur across northern and western Virginia where 4 to 8 inches will be possible, with 2 to 5  inches of snow accumulation expected in a swath that includes the Richmond Metro Area.
