RICHMOND, Va. -- A man sitting in his car parked outside a Fan apartment building was kicked, punched and robbed earlier this month, according to Richmond Police. Investigators released video of a group of men they would like to question about the crime that happened in Richmond's Fan District. Richmond Police posted video on its Facebook page.
"Do you recognize these suspects," police asked on Facebook. "They assaulted a man in a car parked behind the 400 block of North Allen Avenue in the early morning hours of Feb. 2."
Police said the victim had returned to his car after visiting a friend who lived in a nearby apartment. The suspects approached the victim's car and knocked on the window. When the victim opened the door, the suspects attacked him. The punching and kicking continued after the victim got out of his car. The suspects took the victim's wallet and phone, police said. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
"The clip was chosen to show the suspects when they come nearest the camera - it was not chosen to show the senseless assault - which was edited out," police replied on Facebook to people who asked why video of the assault was not shared.
Police have not yet been able to provide descriptive details of the men in the video. Anyone with information about this crime was asked to call Third Precinct Detective William Cutshall at (804) 646-1068. The 400 block of North Allen is located between Park and Monument Avenues, near the Robert E. Lee monument.
