HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Nearly six months after his body was found in his burned out taxi cab, investigators released photos of a vehicle that may be connected to the August 2014 murder of James Wells. Hanover investigators said Wells drove his 2004 gray Chevrolet minivan taxi from the Econo Lodge on Colonel Corner Drive in Hopewell to Mechanicsville where he was found dead.
"Surveillance images at that time at the Econo Lodge captured an image of a vehicle," Hanover County Sheriff's spokesman Major Mike Trice said. "Investigators are seeking to locate and identify the owner. The vehicle appears to be a dark colored, four- door Cadillac with at white stripped rear passenger tire."
Anyone with information about the vehicle or its owner was asked to call the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
"They told us that James had been burned while he was still alive, unconscious but still alive,” Wells’ widow explained in an October interview. "I do feel that a reward will help bring some answers. We know what he died of, but not why or who or if this is going to happen again to somebody else."
Weeks after James Wells' death, the Wells family established a reward fund. James’ father, David Wells, said he hoped the reward fund would bring in new leads.
"I know somebody has to know something," he said. "Somebody had to have seen something."
