HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- The Hanover Sheriff's Office is encouraging people in the county to download the CodeRED alert system onto their smartphone.
"This new high-speed mass notification system will deliver vital information in the event of an emergency," Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Major Michael Trice wrote in an email. "The system is geographically based, alerting only residents in the affected area. It is capable of dialing the entire county within minutes. The system will deliver warnings and critical safety instructions in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action, such as severe weather, criminal activity, road closures, evacuations, or missing persons."
