HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — One man was killed and eight people hurt in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday night in Hanover. Five of the eight people injured were children, according to Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Major Michael Trice.
The deceased driver was identified as Alexander Keel, 68, of Richmond. Keel died at the scene of the crash, Trice said.
The preliminary investigation has revealed Keel’s Nissan Sentra crossed the center line of Hanover Courthouse Road (Route 301), between Hill Crest Road and Georgetown Road, at about 10:20 p.m. and struck a Chrysler Town and Country van head-on, investigators said. There was one adult and two children in the Chrysler van.
A Honda Odyssey van behind the Chrysler also struck the Nissan. There were two adults and three children in the Honda van.
“All occupants of the other two vehicles were transported to VCU Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in the crash,” Trice said. “None of their injuries appear life-threatening.”
The investigation into the accident is on-going.
