HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Del. Joe Morrissey (D – Henrico) turned in paperwork Tuesday to run as an independent candidate in next month’s special election for the General Assembly seat he currently represents.

Earlier this month, Morrissey announced he would resign from his General Assembly seat, effective January 13, 2015, following his conviction on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  Morrissey was sentenced to serve six months in jail.

Monday night, Democrats chose Kevin Sullivan to run in the January 13 special election for the 74th District House  seat. High school teacher Matt Walton is the only Republican candidate who has announced his intention to run for the seat.
