Tracking Zeta as it heads for Virginia

Strong cold front arrives for weekend

RICHMOND, Va. -- Hurricane Zeta made landfall this afternoon along the southeast Louisiana coast and will accelerate northeastward through the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic tonight into Thursday while weakening. The center of circulation will pass through central Virginia just north of Richmond Thursday afternoon, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the area. The heaviest rain will be in a band just north of Richmond, while the zone of strongest winds will lie just south of Richmond. A few instances is damaging winds and perhaps a brief tornado could occur across Southside Virginia.

A strong cold front will move through the area Thursday night, bringing a chilly air mass into the region for the weekend. Saturday will be mostly sunny and cool, with variably cloudy and mild conditions Sunday. Another surge of cold air will arrive Monday, keeping our weather feeling like Fall for much of next week.
