RICHMOND, Va. -- Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been issued ahead of a strong storm system expected to move through the area today. Richmond will see mostly rain, with only a brief period of a wintry mix or light icing early this morning. Temperatures have been below freezing most of the night, but will slowly rise this morning. The heaviest snow and ice will occur along and west of the Blue Ridge, especially north of I-64. .75" to 1.25" of rain will be possible. The precipitation will end in all areas during the pre-dawn hours Thursday, with partly cloudy and cold conditions during the day.
Friday and Saturday will be partly cloudy and chilly days. A few sprinkles or flurries will be possible early Sunday morning as another trough swings through the area.
Seasonally cool and dry weather is expected early next week.
