RICHMOND, Va. -- Today and Friday will be hot and dry days as ridging develops over the Mid-Atlantic. Friday could be our hottest day so far this summer, with highs in the mid to upper 90s possible.

The 4th of July will be hot and humid, with a few afternoon thunderstorms possible. A weak back-door cold front will bring temperatures down a few degrees on Sunday, with a low chance for a shower or thunderstorm.

A flat but hot ridging pattern will redevelop early next week, resulting in a period of very hot weather for the region.

There are currently no significant tropical disturbances in the Atlantic Basin.
