Muggy with scattered storms possible

RICHMOND, Va. -- Scattered thunderstorms will become more numerous today as a cold front moves into Virginia during the day.

A few storms could again be severe with damaging wind gusts and large hail.

The cold front will move through Virginia late tonight night into Friday morning, bringing much drier air to the region, and a break from the heat.

Friday should be dry in all areas, with only a low chance for a shower or storm on Saturday.

An upper-level trough will dig southward this weekend, and a piece of this energy will become cutoff over the region Sunday through most of next week.

This pattern will result in a prolonged period of below-normal temperatures and a good chance for rain. Models tend to do a poor job handling cutoff lows, but the pattern should transition to a hotter and drier scenario late next week.
