RICHMOND, Va. -- After catching a slight break in the intense heat Friday and Saturday with highs in the lower 90s, temperatures will surge back to near 100° through Tuesday.

The temperatures and humidity will make it feel like over 100° Sunday, near or above 105° Monday, and above 105° Tuesday. Some areas will be even hotter.

This month has had 90° temperatures on all but five days. Highs have been 90° or hotter since July 10.

Including Sunday, this makes 17 straight days of 90° or hotter. The most consecutive days of 90°+ occurred in 1995, when the stretch reached 27 days.

The second longest was in 1993. However, highs this week are expected to be in the 90s through Thursday, so our stretch will likely break 20 days.

A cold front and the threat for storms will drop temperatures a little bit Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is our best chance of having a high below 90°. Highs are expected to be near or above 90 next weekend.
