RICHMOND, Va. -- A lot more people are discovering one of Central Virginia's treasures: The Virginia Capital Trail.

If you're a regular along the multi-use, paved trail that runs through Richmond as well as Henrico, Charles City and James City counties, you've likely noticed more folks on the path.

In fact, officials with the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation said that is because trail networks across the country "are experiencing steady climbs as people find new ways to stay healthy and active."

Accordingly, the Capital Trail saw a 77 percent increase in usage for May, which.Virginia Capital Trail Executive Director Cat Anthony called "awesome."

"We're seeing everyone from cyclists to runners to walkers and rollerbladers," Anthony said.

Anthony urged visitors to practice social distancing as well as stay hydrated during the summer heat.

The Capital Trail is a 51-mile trail that connects Richmond to Jamestown.
