RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Commonwealth University police are asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest connected to an assault investigation stemming from an altercation on Thursday night.
According to VCU police, at around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, a large group of bicyclists were illegally blocking traffic at the intersection of West Cary Street and North Morris Street near campus and were allegedly attempting to redirect vehicles off of West Cary Street.
One driver engaged in a verbal dispute with several of the bicyclists, during which someone from the group spit on an occupant of the vehicle.
The driver proceeded to exit the vehicle and a physical altercation between multiple individuals ensued.
The occupants of the vehicle reported the incident to VCU police. Officers say the victim's injuries were minor but signs of strangulation were present.
One person involved in the altercation self transported to the hospital and were charged with simple assault, another individual was also charged based off of witness statements.
