RICHMOND, Va. — The man Richmond police say killed his 14-year-old daughter and her 18-year-old brother in a domestic shooting in April is now charged with murder.
Police say Levy Nelson, 41, fatally shot his 14-year-old daughter, Sadie Terry, her 18-year-old brother, Zion Terry, and wounded their mother in Highland Park on April 21. Zion died at the scene of the shooting, while Sadie died from her injuries days later.
The siblings were remembered by their school principals for the lasting impressions they left on staff and classmates.
Nelson was arrested hours after the shooting and was initially charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. His charges now include aggravated murder of multiple persons, child abuse, violent felon in possession of a weapon, malicious assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and violent felon possessing a weapon.
He was indicted by a Richmond grand jury on Monday and will be back in court on May 19 for his initial charges.
If Nelson is convicted of aggravated murder of multiple persons, he will automatically receive a life sentence.
Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said Nelson had a criminal history, but police had never responded to that home for domestic violence in the past.
