RICHMONDA, Va. -- Richmond Public Schools has launched food-delivery sites in neighborhoods throughout the district to help feed students and families during school closures.
In addition to school-based distribution sites, RPS has established multiple mobile sites for families to pick up food in the wake of school closures.
“It’s a basic need. Making sure our kids have food," Deanna Fierro, a teacher in Henrico County, said. "There’s a lot of people that posted online saying that they knew families or are families that can’t get to the locations... this is a concern that we worry about all year long, now it’s just right in front of everybody’s face.”
Richmond Public Schools are closed until at least April 13 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Virginia's governor ordered all public schools closed for two weeks starting March 16, in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The following food-delivery sites will operate Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. beginning March 18.
Additionally, the following school-based sites are open Monday-Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm.
