Passenger killed in Hanover crash

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Police released the name of a Florida man who was killed on Interstate 95 north of Richmond.

Cornelius Lee Legrand, 27, of Naples, Fla, died at the scene of Friday's crash near mile marker 95 in Hanover County.

"A 2020 BMW 330I was traveling north on I-95 when it ran off the right side of the interstate. The vehicle struck a VDOT sign and overturned into a tree," a Virginia State Police spokesperson said.

Cornelius Legrand, the passenger, was wearing his seat belt.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Hector Javier Legrand, also of Naples, Fla., was also wearing his seatbelt. The driver suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Charges are pending in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The crash was reported at about 1:40 a.m. on Friday, July 10.
