PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police are searching for multiple suspects Saturday evening after a trooper witnessed a shootout between two sedans in Prince George County, setting off a chase that ended in a crash near Red Hill Mobile Home Park.

The incident began around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Puddledock and Temple roads.

"One of our troopers was at the intersection of Puddledock and Temple when he witnessed a red sedan pull up and fire into another sedan," a Virginia State Police spokesperson said.

The trooper activated his lights and pursued the red sedan, which crashed near Red Hill Mobile Home Park. The vehicle had at least three men inside. The suspects ran off and remain at large.

The man in the other sedan drove to a nearby hospital with injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Chippenham Hospital, troopers said.

During the foot pursuit, the trooper injured his knee after misjudging a fence.

"I came out the house and the officer was laying down," a resident said. "And I asked if he was alright, and he said yes, but he had hurt his knee," a resident of the mobile home park said.

State Police say the trooper is expected to make a full recovery.

Residents of the mobile home park described the chaos as the suspects fled through the area.

"I heard two big booms coming from behind our trailer," one woman said. "Next thing, our front door is open, and I see at least two people run right in our front yard."

The resident described the three suspects.

"They looked young. They looked skinny, so maybe teenagers, young adults. But they ran really fast," she said.

A helicopter equipped with night vision technology is hovering over a wooded area near Puddledock and River roads as the search continues. A gun was recovered at the scene. Whether the remaining suspects are armed is unknown.
