Man killed in Richmond on New Year's Eve morning

RICHMOND, Va. -- Authorities said a man has died after he was shot on Richmond's Southside early New Year's Eve.

Officers were called to the 2900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway for the report of a person shot at 4:40 a.m., according to officials with Richmond Police.

"Once on scene, they found an adult male suffering life-threatening injuries from an apparent gunshot wound," officials said. "He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries."

Police said the Medical Examiner will determine the victim's "exact cause and manner of death."

No additional details were available at last check Thursday afternoon.
