Man killed at Richmond gas station

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are investigating after a man was found dead in the parking lot of a Richmond gas station.

Police were called to the 1700 block of East Broad Street, in Shockoe Bottom, at 1:30 a.m. for the report of a shooting.

"Officers arrived and found an adult male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive in the parking lot of a business," Richmond Police spokesperson James Mercante wrote in an email. "He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead."

Police hope witnesses will come forward with information about the man's death.

"Several vehicles, including several motorcycles, were seen leaving the area as officers arrived," the police email continued. "The Major Crimes division’s detectives are investigating this shooting."
