Man using wheelchair hit by car in Chesterfield dies

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A man using a wheelchair has died after he was hit by a car along a busy Chesterfield road early Sunday morning, according to police.

The victim was hit by a vehicle headed east on Midlothian Turnpike near Karl Linn Drive around 1:25 a.m., Lt. Gary McGregor with Chesterfield Police said.

"He was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries," McGregor said. "Police are withholding the identification of the victim until next of kin is notified."

Officers said the driver remained at the scene.

Police have not said if charges will be filed in the crash.
