Man arrested in connection to Hopewell gas station shooting

HOPEWELL, Va. -- An arrest has been made in connection to a shooting that happened at a gas station in Hopewell Wednesday morning.

Around 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the Petrol Gas Station located at 3918 Oaklawn Boulevard for multiple calls about shots fired.

According to police, a person was pumping gas when a driver pulled into the gas station and fired multiple shots at him. Then, the victim pulled out a gun and fired shots back at the driver. Other vehicles were damaged and the suspect fled the area before police arrived.

“Quick work by the officers and witnesses led to the arrest and removing of a violent offender from the streets of Hopewell,” said Detective Lieutenant Michael Langford.

Curtis Lee Hickman, 23, from Petersburg was arrested in connection to the shooting.

Hickman was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and was arrested on charges of possession of firearm by a convicted felon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, felony vandalism and discharging a firearm in city limits after his treatment.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
