HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico School leaders planned to discuss options for redistricting in a work session Thursday. In April, the district delayed further discussion on redistricting plans due to COVID-19 concerns.

According to a presentation online:

  • The first option school leaders planned to consider in their Thursday session, would be to resume where they left off in April on redistricting plans.
  • The second option was to put a halt to redistricting altogether with no further action.
  • The third option board members would consider included targeted reassignment of students to address the board’s concerns.

The redistricting process was meant to account for the projected population growth in Henrico Public Schools, as well as school overcrowding and new school construction.

It had the potential to impact many communities in Henrico if the county did decide to move forward.

According to that online presentation, leaders aimed to have any redistricting plan finalized by early winter 2021 to allow planning time for families.
