GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has determined the factors that led to a boating accident that killed a Henrico County high school student.

Gabe Henderson, a student-athlete at Deep Run High School, was killed in a boating accident on Lake Anna on Monday, April 27.

Investigators said four teenagers were fishing on an 18-foot center console boat when it began taking on water. A witness called for help in the 3000 block of Moody Town Road in Bumpass around 3:50 p.m.

Divers pulled Gabe Henderson's body from the water about five hours after the initial call for help. The other three teens were able to swim to shore.

DGIF spokesperson Paige Pearson tells CBS 6 that gusty winds, cold water, and the failure to utilize a life jacket are the factors in the boating accident.

Alcohol and speed are not a factor and no charges will be filed in the boating accident.

Henderson played football, basketball, and ran track for the western Henrico high school.

This past football season, Henderson was named to the All-Region team after he helped lead Deep Run to a perfect regular season and 11-1 overall record.
