RICHMOND, Va. -- Dozens gathered in northern Church Hill Friday afternoon to remember the life of 15-year-old Daevion Austin.

“We are not here for a funeral. We’re not here for a vigil. We are here for a life celebration," a local pastor said.

“I’m just going to the miss the late nights that me and Davieon would set up talking when everybody else asleep and I’m going to miss him coming to me for advice for little things he was dealing with," his aunt said.

Austin was shot Tuesday night, outside an apartment building near 31st and P streets in the North part of Church Hill, according to Richmond Police.

He died at the scene.

“This gun violence and killing people senseless has got to stop. It’s got to stop," a family member said.

"Find out where they getting these guns from. Find out who’s giving them to them," another family member added.

As his family and loved one plea for an end to gun violence, his mother tries to find comfort from local faith leaders.

"Get in the mirror and remember Daveions smile, remember his life, remember the words he said that made you smile and made you laugh," a local pastor said. "He’s always in your heart, he’s not dead.”

Police have not released any information about the shooting suspects or motives.
