CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. -- State police and the Charles City County Sheriff's Office are in the "early stages" of a death investigation Thursday morning.
Officials with the sheriff's office are investigating "an emergency incident that resulted in the death of a county citizen."
Deputies were dispatched to the 11600 block of Eagles Nest Road just before 7:40 a.m., according to Crime Insider sources.
When deputies arrived, they found a woman fatally stabbed, according to those Crime Insider sources. Those sources said this was a domestic case and the victim knew her suspected killer.
"A person of interest is currently in investigative detention," deputies later said in a Facebook post.
Officials with the sheriff's office said "details of this event cannot be released" as their investigation is ongoing.
For hours, detectives had the home wrapped in crime scene tape.
Cecilia Bradby said word spread quickly about the investigation when neighbors reported a swarm of emergency vehicles driving towards the crime scene.
"The first thing I was thinking that someone was murdered. We have to protect our citizens. They should be notified to be aware of their surroundings," Bradby said.
Bradby, who was born and raised in Charles City County, said they aren't used to this type of crime in their neighborhood.
"We are praying for the [family] for comfort and peace," Bradby said.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Greene at 804-829-9265.
