HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Deputies are searching for the driver they say ran from the scene of a fiery three-vehicle fatal crash in Hanover County Saturday morning.
Herber Ontoniel Luna- Contreras, 31 years, of North Chesterfield, is wanted for felony hit and run.
Deputies with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a Jeep Wrangler driving recklessly on Route 54 before they were called to the wreck in the 14000 block of West Patrick Henry Road (Route 54) near King Road at 10:15 a.m.
"As deputies were responding to the area to locate the vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler sideswiped a Jeep Cherokee and struck a Subaru SUV head-on," Hanover Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Steve DiLoreto said. "The Jeep Cherokee and Subaru were both traveling east."
DiLoreto said the Subaru burst into flames after the impact of the crash.
Deputies said the rear passenger in the Wrangler, Jonathan Rios Perez, 23 years old, of North Chesterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The front passenger of the Wrangler, described as Hispanic male in his 20s, was taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the Subaru, who was the only person in the car and described as a white male in his 50s, was transported to an area hospital, according to deputies.
Luna-Contreras is described as 5’ 7”, 190-200 lbs, and is known to color his hair black. Police say he also goes by the alias, “Jesus Perez.”
