Capitol Police officers hit with bat, beer bottle during Richmond protest

RICHMOND, Va. -- Two Capitol Police officers have been taken to the hospital after they were hit by objects protesters threw at them, according to a police spokesperson.

The incident happened when people were gathered near the main gate to Capitol Square, officials said.

One officer was hit by a baseball bat. The other was struck by a beer bottle.

Both were transported to VCU Medical Center where they were treated for leg injuries.

No additional details were available at last check.

Two state troopers were also hit by objects Saturday nightwhen they were trying to break up a large "unruly crowd" in Prince William County.
