AMBER ALERT UPDATE: Selena Fernandez has been safely located. Rodney Richards, Jr., is in custody, according to Stafford Sheriff deputies.
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. -- An AMBER Alert was issued for Selena Fernandez. She is believed to be in extreme danger.
The 17-year-old was last seen at a gas station along the 2100 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Stafford County, Virginia.
"On September 16, at approximately 9:59 p.m., deputies responded to 2142 Jefferson Davis Highway for a reported abduction. A witness reported 17-year-old Selena Fernandez, of Spotsylvania, had entered the store visibly distraught," Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Major Shawn Kimmitz wrote in an email. "Fernandez asked to use the phone and a clerk provided one."
Witnesses said as Fernandez called a relative for a ride, Rodney Richards, Jr. entered the store.
"[He] took the phone from Fernandez. Richards proceeded to forcibly remove Fernandez from the store," the email continued. "They were last seen leaving the convenience store southbound on Jefferson Davis Highway in a white older model four-door sedan, possibly a Honda Accord."
Fernandez is described as 5'1" and 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.
Richards, 19, is described 5'10" and 230 pounds, wearing a blue hoodie and black jeans.
He is an acquaintance of Fernandez, according to investigators. He is now wanted for abduction, assault and battery, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and driving with a suspended license.
