CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Jahdon “Jay” Robinson was remembered as a loving son, brother, friend, and teammate, his mother Sharron Smith said.
Robinson's body was discovered in the James River on Saturday, February 20, according to Chesterfield Police.
He was 20 years old.
Robinson won the 2017 state basketball title as a member of the L.C. Bird Skyhawks. He went on to attend Benedictine.
While he was recruited by several college basketball teams, Robinson did not play basketball at the collegiate level.
He did help coach his younger sister Trinity, a rising star at Bird.
Smith said her son loved spending time with family and friends and writing music.
He was quite the artist, she added.
"His bright smile lit up any room," she said. "Also his goofy laugh made others laugh."
Smith said she could not yet discuss the circumstances surrounding her son's death.
The young man's body was discovered at about 12:39 p.m. Saturday in the water at Henricus Historical Park in Chesterfield, according to police.
"Police continue their investigation, but at this point, foul play is not suspected," a Chesterfield Police spokesperson wrote in an email.
Jay's loving brother Kahree helped establish a GoFundMe to cover the unexpected funeral costs.
