HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Four people, including two Henrico Police officers and a man they had in custody, were injured in a crash Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Chamberlayne and Wilkinson Road in Henrico County.

Henrico Police Lieutenant Matt Pecka said they believe the officers, who were transporting a man in custody inside of a marked police vehicle, were traveling west on Wilkinson Road. When they got through the intersection, a truck traveling south on Chamberlayne slammed into the passenger side door of the car.

Both cars spun before they came to a stop. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash.

Henrico Fire had to use the jaws of life to get the two officers from their vehicle and into an ambulance.

Four people were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Three of them, including the two officers and the man they were transporting, have life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The fourth person injured has been released from the hospital, police said.

A woman who was at the scene of the crash comforted one of the injured officers following the crash.

"I love people and just wanted to make sure that the officer I could touch felt safe. So I held his hand and told him that he is loved and that he is safe," Lonna Latimar said.
