KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – Two Hanover County residents were killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash in King William County on Saturday, April 25.

Virginia State Police responded to the crash on southbound Route 30, .3 miles north of Globe Road at 8:31 p.m.

“The trooper's preliminary investigation reveals that a 2007 Toyota Tacoma driven by Jared C. Belton, 23, of Mechanicsville, was traveling southbound on Route 30, lost control, and crossed the northbound lanes of traveling,” said a state police spokesperson. “The vehicle then ran off road left, striking an embankment, overturning, striking two trees, and then caught on fire.”

Police say a passenger, identified as Logan A. Jenks, 21, of Ashland, was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Belton and Jenks were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it is unknown if Belton was wearing his seat belt and Jenks was not wearing his seat belt.

Investigators say speed is being considered as one of the factors into the cause of the crash, which remains under investigation.
