CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- One person is in custody and a search is underway for a second armed suspect after an officer was shot in Chesterfield County. The officer is in stable condition and received a "graze wound."

Police say that the incident began when they located a car exiting the parking lot of a closed church near Cogbill Road.

Officers stopped the car in the area of Castlewood Road and Treetop Apartments.

That's where shots were fired by a passenger who exited the car, according to police.

The driver of the car is in custody, but a manhunt is underway for the passenger.

Officers have set up a perimeter in the area and remained on scene as of 9 a.m. Thursday, actively searching for the suspect.

Police are urging residents in the area to stay inside their homes and call 911 immediately if they observe any suspicious activity and/or have any information about the suspect or incident.
