CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police are on the hunt for a man who tried to break into several homes in one Chesterfield neighborhood on Thanksgiving morning.

Crime Insider sources said the suspect hid inside one home off Holly Hill Court as officers were searching for him outside.

Blood and footprint evidence were recovered from inside the home, according to Crime Insider sources.

Home surveillance video showed bloodhounds following a trail after officers were called to the area after several attempted or reported break-ins.

"It doesn’t surprise me with what’s going on around here in the lake recently," one neighbor said. "It puts me on my guard, but we’re on our guard anyway because we come from a big city.”

A woman who lives off Obsorne Road in Chester, who spoke with WTVR CBS 6 on the condition of anonymity, said a suspected crook that made her jump out of bed.

“He walks past my bedroom window and I noticed that he looked really angry and there was a really crazy look about him,” the woman said. " I don't have experience with weapons, but when I looked it up, it looked like a machete."

She said the deranged man then went to her screened-in porch and started tossing furniture before running off into the woods.

Crime Insider sources believe the man made his way into a home on Holly Hill Court to hide from police.

Police said the suspect may own a bright red jacket with a Dale Jr. No. 2 on it.
