RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Animal Care and Control is looking for the person who recently dumped 15 adult cats on the shelter's front door.

The shelter said two large boxes filled with cats were dropped off at their Chamberlayne Ave. shelter on Wednesday, August 23.

The shelter shared the photos of the cats on their Facebook page.

Staff members say visitors in the parking lot saw someone run back to a green cube car with a New Jersey plate and speed off.

“Remember that RACC is an open admission shelter and we provide many options for pet retention and relinquishment that prevent acts like this,” the shelter said in a Facebook post. “We will work to make space for these cats but please encourage anyone to consider adoption and/foster of current resident pets to make room for these abandoned at RACC.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 804-646-5573.
